The junk rig is, without doubt, the most efficient cruising rig. As a junk rig is not the norm, this puts most people off from even considering it. In many ways, you need to experience a junk rig to fully appreciate its wonderful qualities. Come on board!

- Despite perceived wisdom and unjustified criticism junk rigs sail well to windward compared to an average cruising bermudan rig, but cannot compare to a racing boat.
- It is easy to reef and handle in squally conditions
- The sails are self-tending when tacking, making short tacking under sail effortless
- Simple DIY sail making, plus low cost and ease of repair
- Unstayed mast removes the rigging wire problems
- There is no need to change sails, and no sail bags down below
